Setup stock control

The ability to manage your stock levels is often a fundamental requirement of today’s businesses. This allows you to order stock when required.
With this feature you can have your stock managed based on the main product itself, or as of version 1.2.5 based on the stock levels of the associated product options. When a main product goes out of stock the system will notify you and ensure no one can purchase it.
Sometimes, there may be a time when you would like to allow clients to order goods which you have not received. Your website can handle this with the “allow pre order”. For example a new must have product will be made available by the manufacture in a few months time. You can place a message saying “Due soon” or “Due at the end of September” and provide a “pre order” button.
To start using stock control you must turn it on by logging in to your websites administration area. Click the “Settings” tab. Choose the option “Turn features on or off” which can be found under the “Site features & Layouts” sub-heading.
Scroll down to the area “E-Qcart” and choose the option “Use stock control”. Click the “Submit” button to apply your changes.
You must now decide how you wish to run the stock management. It can be based on the stock levels of the product, the stock levels of options or a combination of both.

Note: You can have one product using “stock based on options” and another product “using stock based on the product” you cannot use both on the same product.
To use stock control based on the options assigned to a product, either create or modify a product option. (click here to learn how to) Whilst creating or modifying an option type the amount of stock each option has in the “Stock” box next to each option as shown below.

When you are finished click the “Submit” button and apply the options to the product.
When you are administering a product you will notice two options relating to stock. These can be found under the “Price & Options” tab. For stock based on the options choose “options” from the “stock by” drop down as shown here;
Or to have the stock controlled by the product and not the options choose “item” from the “stock by” drop down and type the stock quantity in the “Stock qty” box as shown here;
![]()
When an option becomes out of stock it can be styled to shade out by adding the following class to your CSS file;
.otofstk{color:#999;}
The default wording is “out of stock”. You can change this via your language files by looking for xxoptstkout="- out of stock" and replacing the wording between the quotes.

Note: If two or more products sharing the same product options the stock levels will be shared between the two. If this is not desirable, you will have to create unique product options for each product in question.
If you have chosen the “stock by options” from within the product administration you must ensure all of the assigned options have stock values set against them in order for them to be available for sale to your clients.
