Pop up windows – make yours managed online
Although pop-up windows are sometimes irritating, we realise that occasionally they are needed to offer clients additional information without them having to leave the screen they are using. These can be used within your main site design or even within a description box which offers you further flexibility.
Adding a pop up to a page could not be simpler and it is a fully integrated feature within your website. This, however, might not be obvious to you.
The first thing you need to do to make use of this feature is login to your website administration area. Click on the "Content" tab and then on to the link "General information pages" which can be found under the sub-heading "General Information"
When the main General information page screen loads click the "add new" button and complete the relevant boxes, this time, however, make sure you turn off the following:
- Level: "Disabled for all" - this ensures it will not show up on your site in the normal way
- Show on menu, set this to "no" as we are not wanting to use it in the normal way
- Show on also see, set this to "no"
Static page name, ensure you "leave this blank" this is important as otherwise the page will be redirected away from your pop-up.
You can use all of the other boxes just as normal and when you're done click the "submit" button.
You will then be taken back to your main "general information" page list. The next important steps to note is the "ID" number of the page you have just created, as we will be using this shortly.
Note: We recommend you create an information page section called pop-ups to help you administer your site pop-ups at a later date.
Finally, add your new link to the page that you want it to appear on. Use the id you have just noted. An example is;
You "MUST" replace the "xx" part of "infopop.asp?id=xx" with the id of the page you created. You are free to change the title and link text of course to match your needs. SmartDe_tip can also be replaced as long as it contains no spacing and only basic wording.
