Administering your Countries & counties

Your website software has installed as default 89 countries and 1699 counties. These are used on contact forms, the checkout process and any shipping rules you may have created.

Note: You do not need to display them all if you have no wish for a particular country or county. You can easily hide them from public view.
To administer your countries/counties login to your administration area. Click on the "Settings" tab, then click "Countries" which can be found under the sub-heading "Extras".
When the main countries/counties section loads you will see a list of all the available places. These are spread across multiple pages. You may have to navigate between pages to find the country/county you are looking for.
Your website offers you several "Quick set" buttons. These are located on the upper right of your screen. They allow you to turn on or off countries and counties for your pre-defined groups.
Your quick set options are;
- UK only - this turns off all countries except UK
- EU only - this turns off all countries that are not within the EU
- All but EU - this allows you to turn off all countries that are in the EU
- hide all - this hides all countries from view
- All on - this turns all counties back on

Note: To help prevent bogus orders and speed up the process of choosing a country for your clients we "recommend" you "turn off" all countries that you have no wish to ship to.
Your main countries/counties are set out in easy to use columns and looks like this;

To modify your countries/counties you have several options. You can remove a country from the list by clicking the "Delete" button under the "action" column of the line of the country you wish to remove.

Note: Removing a country cannot be undone once you have confirmed your wish to delete it. Consider hiding a country from public view rather than completely deleting it.
To hide just the counties of a particular country, click the button "Hide all" under the counties column of the country in question. The "Hide all" button will now change to a "show all". Clicking this will turn all of the counties for that particular country back on.
To modify your countries, click the button "Modify" under the "action" column of the line where the country name is listed. A new page will load and display the available options to you. Depending which of the features you have turned on, some of the following may not be displayed.
Many of the available options are self-explanatory. If you are unclear about what a box is used for, click the blue icon next to each one for detailed instructions. Some of the options open to you are;
| Name / Title: | The name used for the country. You should use the nationally known name rather than a short hand version. This not only makes future administration easier but prevents any accidental insult you may cause a visitor. |
| VAT: |
If you are charging "VAT" and you need to "change" the amount you charge for a particular country, type the new "VAT" rate in the "VAT box" . Otherwise leave this set to "0" which allows the software to use the main sites VAT rate. |
| Show: |
Rather than deleting a country you can hide it by choosing "no" from the "show" drop down. This will prevent this county being shown to your clients. |
| VAT exempt: | If you wish the system to automatically remove the VAT for a country choose yes from the drop down. This works in conjunction with the "Allow Auto vat removal" setting found on the E-qcart settings page. |
| Shipping Zone: | Choose the shipping zone from the available list. This works in conjunction with the "shipping cost by" setting found on the E-qcart settings page and the shipping zones you have set up. |
| Use FSA: | This allows you to offer Free Shipping to a country. The amount box allows you to specify if it is to be applied to orders that reach a particular value only. |
| Currency code: | This lists the currency ISO code used within the site. It is for use with payment gateways to identify the currency you are charging in. (see the tool tip for more) |
| County Code: | Is the Language (Locale) used within the software to ensure your web site displays letters in your local language correctly. This is typically called LCID. (see the tool tip for more) |
| EU member: | Choose yes from the drop down if the country is a EU member otherwise select no. |
| VAT letters: | This is used to validate EU vat numbers and to pass the country code to payment gateways. It is always a two letter value. (see the tool tip for more) |
| Handling Charge: | if you wish to charge a handling fee for a country, type your amount here if it should be a fixed amount or a percentage of the order. |
To administer a country's county list click on the "Modify" button under the counties column. You will be presented with the available counties for that country. You can now administer these in much the same way as "countries".
